Illnesses

In the event your child becomes ill at school, or if one of the other children contracts a communicable disease and we believe other children have been exposed to it, parents will be notified at once. In order to limit the spread of illness as much as possible, please cooperate by keeping your child at home according to the following guidelines (a good rule of thumb is, if in doubt, keep your child home. An extra day of rest is sometimes BEST!):

  • if a child has green nasal discharge;
  • for at least 24 hours after having a fever;
  • for at least 24 hours after the last occurrence of vomiting or diarrhea;

  • or
  • during the incubation and outbreak of a contagious disease until the doctor recommends returning to school.

Please note that a child has a fever if he or she has a temperature of 100.5 degrees and above measured before taking fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol®. All children are expected to participate in outdoor play, weather permitting. Outdoor play is necessary for good physical development and general health. Please DO NOT send your child to school if he or she is not well enough to participate in outdoor activities, or if he or she is acting lethargic and cannot participate in a normal day's activities. Arrangements cannot always be made to have someone stay indoors with your child or sit and hold your child all day. Your cooperation is appreciated.

In cases of EMERGENCY, every effort will be made to contact the parents and/or those persons listed on the child's emergency treatment form. If the situation warrants, an ambulance will be called, and the child will be taken to the appropriate medical facility. Payment for such services is the sole responsibility of the parent.
